Natural rubber prices still low despite supply shortage

NR prices in Kerala are still around ₹150-160 per kg even though production is down and plantations are struggling. Meanwhile tyre companies are making huge profits. Why rubber board is not taking action to support farmers? This is very unfair situation.

You are only looking at one side. Synthetic rubber prices are even lower and we have to compete with imports also. Natural rubber from Thailand and Indonesia is coming at cheaper price. Indian production cost is high thats the problem, not that we dont want to pay more.

Both sides have valid points. But reality is farmers are leaving rubber plantation and switching to other crops because its not profitable anymore. In 5-10 years India will become fully dependent on imports and then prices will shoot up. Government should think long term and support farmers now.
